Functions of an AC dryer bottle.

- Moisture removal: Contains a desiccant material to absorb moisture that enters the system, preventing rust, corrosion, and blockages.
- Debris filtration: Filters out dirt and other contaminants from the refrigerant.
- Refrigerant management: Serves as a reservoir to compensate for variations in refrigerant volume, ensuring the system operates at a consistent level.
- Component protection: Helps prevent damage to the compressor and other A/C components by keeping the refrigerant clean and dry.
Signs of a bad AC dryer bottle.
- Poor cooling performance
- Frost buildup on A/C lines
- A cloudy sight glass (if the system has one)
- Mild noise from the unit
- A leak in the system that has caused a significant amount of refrigerant loss
When to replace it.
- Regular maintenance: Manufacturers generally recommend replacement every 3 years.
- After a system leak: If the refrigerant has leaked out and the system has been open to the atmosphere for more than a couple of hours, the receiver-drier must be replaced to protect the system from moisture.
- When symptoms of failure appear: Replace it if you notice signs of poor performance or other indicators of a bad dryer.
